How To Build A Barometric/ Ejection Charge
Testing Chamber
This is a quick and dirty "How To" on building an operational Barometric Testing Chamber for about $25.00. Note: This only works for altimeters with barometric units, e.g., this unit does not work with accelerometers without a barometric unit.
What you will need are:
2 male end caps - 4' diameter
2 female end pieces - 4" diameter
1 4"x2" T
2 5" sections of 4" pipe
1 45 degree 2 street elbow
1 2" to 1.5" converter
1 small can of PVC glue
4 2" screws (diameter (you pick)
1 small can of plumbers putty
1 tube of plumbers epoxy
1 vacuum cleaner
Assemble into configuration that resembles pictures below:
Drill Screws and seal with plumbers expoxy - fig. 2
Add weight to end cap for stability.
Insert velcro strips into assembled chamber near bottom.
To Use to Test Altimeters:
isert altimeters (one or two)
Insert nozzle of vaccuum into 1.5" opening (seal with plumbers putty).
Turn vacuum on (for only 3 seconds)
Matches will fire as pressure drops.
To USE to Test Charges:
Insert charge:
lay unit on side with 1.5" opening facing up away from you
apply current to outside posts charges are attached (use 12 foot lead)
do not stand near - just to play it safe
clean inside with soapy water after you finished
